Reducing junk e-mail is achievable but if you want to eliminate them then it will be quiet a battle. I find it very annoying each time whenever I check my mail I have to send at least a hundred junk e-mail straight to trash. Some of you I believe even have much more than that. It is a very time consuming and distracting task. I would rather make good use of the time by doing a site promotion.
Listed here are four steps that I have taken to reduce the junk e-mail presence in my mailbox. Surprisingly it did help me reduce unwanted mail by about seventy percent. Not perfect but tolerable nonetheless.
1) Make use of a secondary e-mail account - Open another e-mail account with a web based service such as yahoo or hotmail and use this service to subscribe to mailing lists.
2) Never reply/respond to junk e-mail - Doing so only tells the spammer that your e-mail account is active and this will only encourage the spammer to spam you more.
3) Make good use of the filters function - Configure your filters to weed out certain keywords that are frequented by spammers such as “make money” and “free gift inside” etc.
4) Never post your e-mail publicly - Avoid displaying your e-mail in postings, forums or even guestbook. Spam bots will crawl wherever they can to harvest e-mail addresses.
